Have you ever had a gut feeling about something, only to ignore it and later regret it?
We've all been there. But what if there was a way to tap into your intuition and use it to make more aligned decisions in life? This is where Human Design comes in; a powerful tool that can help you to understand your unique energetic blueprint and connect with your true self.
If I’ve learned one thing, it's that there is no one right way to approach life, and human design affirms what I have felt intuitively for years. It was not until I was laid off in September of 2023 that I stumbled upon the wisdom of Human Design and it has changed my life forever. Human Design teaches that each person is born with a unique energetic blueprint that contains valuable information about who your soul came here to be. This blueprint will show you how your intuition specifically speaks to you and how best to utilize your inherent gifts in all aspects of your life to experience more abundance and alignment.
As author and Human Design expert Ra Uru Hu said, "We all have our own unique way to travel through life. Human Design just gives us a map to help us navigate our way."
Understanding Human Design
Part spirituality, part science, Human Design is an experiment that combines elements of Astrology, the chakra system, I-Ching, Kabbalah, and Quantum Physics. At it’s core is the idea that you were born with a specific design or energetic blueprint, which is determined by the position of the planets at the time of your birth. This blueprint contains valuable information that will show you how to live in alignment with who your soul came here to be. Knowing and understanding the basics of your own Human Design chart can help you to decondition from outdated beliefs that you may or may not be aware of, cut through the cultural noise, and make decisions that are most aligned for you.
There are a lot of components to your Human Design chart, but you really only need to understand a couple in order to start implementing your design for greater ease, fulfillment, and alignment.
If you are new to Human Design, start with grabbing your free Human Design chart below. I’ll also list some of the resources I love and am learning from on my own journey.
The main components of a Human Design chart:
Type: There are five main types: Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector. Your type determines how you're meant to interact with the world and make decisions.
Strategy: Each type has a specific strategy that informs your decision making process.
Authority: This is how you're supposed to make decisions. It could be based on your emotions, instincts, intuition, or something else.
Centers: These are areas of your life that are either defined or undefined. Defined centers represent consistent energy and traits, while undefined centers show areas where you may be influenced by others.
Gates: These are specific traits or characteristics that are represented by numbers on the chart. They can indicate strengths, weaknesses, or potential challenges.
Channels: These are connections between different centers in the chart. They show how energy flows through your system and how you express yourself.
Understanding your type, strategy, and authority is all you really need to get started. When you understand how best to make decisions based on your Human Design type, strategy, and authority, you will automatically be connecting with your intuition on a deeper level and will experience greater ease and alignment. When you make decisions from this centered place, you will notice deeper joy and satisfaction infiltrating every aspect of your life. It truly is magical.
Using Human Design To Connect with Your Unique Intuition
As I stated above, when you understand your Human Design Type, Strategy, and Authority, you are automatically more in tune with your unique intuition. As an example, in Human Design I am a Generator, my strategy is to wait to respond to what life brings to me, and my authority is emotional, meaning I am meant to make decisions based on the way something feels in my body. The trick here is that I need to wait to respond until after my emotional wave has passed. This ensures that I am making decisions from a calm and neutral state vs a state of chaos and reactivity. So for a Generator, “sleep on it”, is sage advice and something that I no longer feel the need to defend. One other thing to note is that each person has a self and not self theme; for me, when I am feeling frustrated, I know I am out of alignment somewhere, when I feel satisfied, I can trust that I have acted in accordance with my intuition.
Looking back on my life through the lens of Human Design has been eye opening and affirming.
The Importance of Self Awareness and Trusting Your Intuition
In the age of information overwhelm, your intuition can become clouded by the myriad of voices “out there”. Human Design provides clarity amidst the chaos and can inform every aspect of your life when you understand your unique chart and the ways in which your intuition speaks. When you practice implementing your Human Design Type, Strategy, and Authority you will experience a reconnection to the still small voice within and will find yourself feeling more joyful, abundant, and alive. Knowing yourself on a deeper level is one of the greatest journeys this life offers and Human Design can help you on that path.
Incorporating Human Design into Daily Life
I have found this fairly simple actually. When I am facing a decision, I check in with my body, how do I feel about each option? If I am able to wait to decide, I do that, but, if it’s a decision that needs to be made in the moment, I do my best to follow what feels right. Small example; as a mom of teenagers who live for Starbucks, I have to set limits, and when they try to push those limits, I pay attention to how my body feels in the moment. If I feel a lightness around the request, I get flexible, but if I feel a constriction, I say “no”, or “not now”. When you live in alignment and honor your instincts, even in the smallest things, you will notice feelings of greater ease, joy, and trust in yourself. The more you practice this, the easier it becomes.
Human Design is an Experiment
I encourage you to play around with your Human Design and journal about your experience. This isn’t dogmatic, religious, or a set of rules. Have fun with it, expect breakthroughs, and just enjoy the ride. And if you want to take a deeper dive, you can always book a Human Design chart reading (kind of like an astrology reading) with one of the teachers listed below. A chart reading goes into greater depth and is a great next step to understanding your unique Human Design chart.
