On the path to deeper authenticity and alignment, putting pen to paper is one of the best ways to connect with your intuition. If you are in a state of chaos, a simple, daily journaling practice can lead to greater clarity, peace, and reassurance that you are in fact, being lovingly guided every step of the way.

I have been there and am most likely only a couple of steps ahead of you.  I went through a massive life change 8 years ago when my first marriage fell apart. Completely stripped of my identity, I began the process of deconditioning and reconnecting with myself in new and profound ways.  What started as an earth shattering experience, transformed into a beautiful opportunity of self-transformation.  You see, it was in this darkness that the universe handed me the opportunity of a lifetime, which was to become so grounded in who I AM and who my SOUL came here to be that I now believe anything is possible AND is what led me to start this blog.

In this blog post I will be sharing five ways that journaling will help you to reconnect with your intuition to live a more aligned, authentic, and fulfilling life.

  • Reflection on thoughts and emotions

  • Focusing on gratitude as a path to deeper connection to your intuition

  • Clarity and Organization

  • Identifying your gut feelings

  • Setting Intentions and Goals

You have the power to create the life of your dreams and it all starts with getting in touch with your intuition and trusting the divine guidance within. So, if you are tired of being held back by self-doubt, fear, and conditioning, and if you know that you are meant for more and are ready to feel abundant, aligned, and in your worth, you are in the right place!  All of that is about to change for good.

How I went from heartbreak to breakthrough with a daily journaling practice

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to write.  I started a diary in elementary school and have kept up the practice in some form or another ever since.  (Side Note: if you have teen daughters and need a new way  to connect with them, just read your diary out loud. We recently did this (unplanned) and it was both humiliating and created a new layer of connection.) When my 12 year marriage began to unravel, this practice literally saved my life.  I don’t know how many journals I went through, but the healing and clarity found in the written word is magical.  I was able to process deep pain, find calm in the storm, connect to my authentic self, and make some sense of such a turbulent time.

Reflection on thoughts and emotion

I realized through journaling that I had ignored my intuition along the way more times than I care to remember and it was in this realization that I vowed to maintain a connection to my higher self going forward at all cost.  As women, I believe we are conditioned both culturally and within our own family systems, to ignore the still small voice inside in favor of keeping the peace, even if it means we abandon ourselves in the process.  I knew I was done with self-abandonment the moment I chose to leave my toxic marriage.  This decision, while painful, was a pivotal moment in my journey to reconnecting with my authentic self and I owe much of my growth over the years to my journaling practice.

Through journaling and recording my thoughts I was able to tap into my intuition and re-discover who I am and who I wanted to be going forward.  I felt empowered, grounded, validated, and excited for my next chapter.  I found the courage to speak hard truths and learned that my power was within my grasp and that nobody could take it away from me unless I allowed it.  I decided that I would no longer allow fear and doubt to keep me stuck and living small,  and boldly stepped into the light of who I was becoming.  I went from feeling trapped to finally feeling free.  And the same can be true for you.

A note on journaling; I believe putting pen to paper is the most therapeutic way to journal, but I am also a firm believer in using whatever modality you will actually use.  So if that is the notes or voice recording app on your phone, it doesn’t really matter, so long as you pick something that you can easily stick to.  It might be a combo and that’s ok too!  Just start getting your thoughts and feelings out and watch the magic unfold.  I really love these Fringe Studio journals and notebooks from Amazon. They have a lot of beautiful styles to choose from and are available at a nice price point. If you are more of a minimalist like me, then you might also like these plain kraft paper journals that come in either a 12 or 24 pack.  If you are new to journaling, I promise you will feel immediate relief even if you only write a couple of sentences to start. Stick with it and you will feel yourself opening to a whole new way of being.

How gratitude strengthens intuition

“Your attitude creates your reality; your reality mirrors your attitude” - KR

When you practice being still and focus on what you are grateful for, you strengthen your connection to your intuition. The more you pay attention to the whispers of your heart and take aligned action, the stronger your connection becomes.  When you choose to focus on what you are grateful for, you will see more of THAT show up in your life.  Part of my journaling practice includes writing down at least 20 things I am grateful for every day.  When you implement this into your routine, you will be amazed at how your perspective and subsequently your mood shifts to the positive.  You will start seeing more signs and synchronicities, you will feel happier, more abundant, authentic, joyful and creative.  You will feel a deeper connection to your intuition and to your purpose. You quite literally have the power to create your reality and it starts with gratitude.

I like to keep a separate daily gratitude journal like this one, or, if you prefer the kraft paper journals, you can just label one “gratitude” and call it good! Again, the point is simply to start!

Clarity and Organization

Journaling helps to organize your thoughts and bring clarity to your feelings. As you put your thoughts on paper, you may find it easier to identify what truly resonates with you and what may be clouding your intuition. This process allows you to separate external influences from your authentic inner voice. In a culture that promotes the overconsumption of social media, I find this to be especially true. If you can cut out all of the external noise by doing say, a social media detox, you will create space for your intuition to rise to the surface. You will feel more grounded, aligned, and whole. Try a 7 day detox if you can and journal what comes up over those seven days! You might be surprised at what comes to light in that time, or the creative ideas that begin to flow when your mind isn’t flooded with so much unnecessary clutter.

Identifying your gut feelings

For most people, intuition often manifests as a "gut feeling" or instinct. It isn’t loud or pushy, rather, it can be described as a subtle “knowing”. By regularly journaling about your feelings and experiences, you can start recognizing and documenting the times where your intuition guided you. This practice enables you to become more attuned to these subtle feelings and trust them as valuable sources of information. In fact, I have a little freebie for you that I will link at the end. I created a guided journal exercise to help connect you with your intuition so make sure to grab that below!

Setting Intentions and Goals

Writing down your goals, aspirations, manifestations and intentions in a journal can help align your outer actions with your inner values. This process allows you to explore what your core values are and discern whether your goals resonate with your authentic self. Tuning into your intuition during goal-setting can guide you towards decisions that align with your deepest desires. I recently started a separate journal for manifestations and it has been a game changer! Which is another reason I like this kraft paper journal pack! Having separate journals for tracking things like gratitude and manifestation helps me to stay organized and makes it easier to go back and see all of the magical things that have come through.
